PESHAWAR: A petition has been filed in the Peshawar High Court (PHC) seeking representation of FATA women in the National Assembly and the Senate.

The petition has been filed by eminent lawyer from Khyber Agency Mehreen Afridi in which President of Pakistan, Prime Minister and Minister for States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) have been made respondents. The petitioner said the women of all the provinces and federal cabinet have representation in the National Assembly and Senate according to the law, but the FATA women have no such representation.

The petitioner said the tribal women find it difficult to join different fields due to tribal traditions and other issues. She said depriving the tribal women from the right to legislation is a violation of human rights.
